Wolf Tooth Components Bling Kit - Treat Your Bike!

If you’ve ever watched the show Parks and Recreation, then the words “Treat yourself”, will surely ring a bell. As cyclists we sure do like to treat ourselves from time to time, especially when it comes to upgrading bike parts - because who doesn’t like the look and feel of some new bike parts!  Unfortunately, those upgrades do add up over time and eventually your budget (or spouse) will place a limit on how much you can spend on your next bike upgrade.

Fear not! There are clever ways in which you can still jazz up your bike - without breaking the bank. In all seriousness, current economic conditions have not been all that rosy for everyone, which means that splashing out on some expensive bike purchases simply isn’t an option to everyone right now. That bring us to the topic for today’s post - Wolf Tooth Components Anodized Bling Kit. This small upgrade won’t set you back all that much, but it can do wonders to give your bike a fresh new appearance. Yep, if you really want to spoil yourself (and your bike), on a limited budget, then this set of headset spacers is the way to do so.

As much as I wish I could tell you that this upgrade will miraculously make your bike 10 watts more efficient, the truth is that this upgrade has little more effect than to enhance the aesthetics of your bike. Sure, you could argue that a precision machined spacer is much stronger (and perhaps marginally lighter) than the regular stock spacers, but I’ve honestly never heard of anyone complaining about a broken (aluminum) headset spacer. The product does however come with the high quality that you would expect from a company like Wolf Tooth. That said, I think Wolf Tooth will agree when I say that the biggest feature about this product lies in the fact that it can make the bike look a bit hipper, hence the name, “Bling Kit”.

This is what you’ll find included in this kit:

·       3mm (2g), 5mm (3g), 10mm (5g), & 15mm (7g) headset spacers

·       Ultralight stem cap (12g) with integrated 5mm spacer

·       4 matching aluminum water bottle cage bolts (4g)

·       Black aluminum stem cap bolt

One practical consideration with this kit is the integrated stem cap and 5mm spacer. I’ve made the mistake once of not adding a 5mm spacer between the cap and stem on a carbon steerer, something not recommended by most manufacturers. Fortunately, a bike shop mechanic was quick to point out my mistake and corrected my spacer layout. The Wolf Tooth spacer and cap combo means that I won’t be making that mistake again.

You’ll be able to tell from the photos that my choice of color (Nickel) for the Bling Kit is fairly tame when compared to the other options available. If you wish to make a bold statement or simply want to match other parts of your bike, then you’re sure to find a color that will meet your needs. Your choices include; Blue, Black, Gold, Green, Red, Silver, Orange, Pink, Teal and Nickel.

Not all bike upgrades have to be expensive and Wolf Tooth’s Bling Kit is a prime example of this. The placebo effect of adding new swag to your bike often goes a long way, and many times it only takes the smallest of items to help you feel faster. If those small items go one step further and gives your bike a fresh new look then the placebo effect is likely to last just a bit longer. If you want a closer look at my bike’s fresh new look then be sure to watch the video that goes along with this post. Only one thing remains after you decide to add some bling to your bike - get out there and show off your ride’s fresh new look!

Leave a comment and let us know what small bike upgrades you’ve made recently - just as a way to treat yourself.
